New Covent Garden Souper Stars
Earlier this month, New Covent Garden Soup Co. hosted a celebratory dinner in private members’ club Home House in London’s Portman Square. The guests of honour were 13 remarkable people from across the country, who had been named as Souper Stars by local independent judges.
Back in September, New Covent Garden Soup hit the road in a ‘souped up’ wagon, on the search for the nation’s Souper Stars – unsung everyday heroes who deserve to be recognized for the extraordinary things they do. With the help of regional judges, over a hundred entries were whittled down to just 13. These 13 Souper Stars and a guest were invited to London, expenses-paid, for the first Souper Stars’ Celebratory Dinner. Guests enjoyed a three-course dinner of endive salad, followed by chicken breast and wild mushrooms with herb mash sauce finished off with treacle tart and clotted cream.
During the evening, Souper Star Emma Pears from Otley was awarded a £5,000 Virgin Gift Card after being selected by a final judge to receive the prize for her selfless charity work. Emma set up a charity called SELFA, which co-ordinates clubs, trips and holidays for over 200 disadvantaged, vulnerable and disabled children a year, enabling them to make friends and learn new skills in a happy and welcoming environment.
The evening was a wonderful testament to the many people across Britain who go out of their way to help others and an event New Covent Garden Soup hope to make an annual celebration.
