5 Minutes with… Catherine Lux
When Catherine Lux started blogging for a charity challenge in 2010 she never imagined it would be the start of something big and we thought we would grab 5 minutes with her to find out more. She got the blogging hook and started Lux Life in 2011. Less than four years later her blog has grown to over 13,000 unique readers per month, over 80,000 pageviews and over 6,000 followers. We decided to catch up with her to find out a little more about what she loves so much about blogging, some of her funniest experiences, her favourite sweet tooth recipes and which blogs she loves reading.
How did you get into blogging?
I started blogging when I did a huge charity challenge in 2010. After I finished the challenge in 2011 and stopped updating the blog I realised how much I missed it, so my brother and best friend suggested I start a new blog, and ta-da, Lux Life was born!
What’s your favourite thing about being a blogger?
Everyone always says it’s meeting other bloggers, and while I love that side of it, my favourite thing about being a blogger is being able to have a platform to write whatever I want whenever I want. There’s no one to approve it, no one to suggest edits, I can just write freely and for me.
What’s the funniest thing that has happened to you while blogging?
Oooh there have been a few! I’ve been recognised a couple of times in the street – having a stranger come running up to you is quite confusing but lovely at the same time. Then another time I got chatting to one of my readers after I went on a press trip to Tresco on the Isles of Scilly, and we both realized that our great great grandfather’s knew each other. To cut a long story short, if her great great grandfather hadn’t of taken mine over to Tresco with him, he would never have met my Scillonian great great grandmother and I wouldn’t be here today!
What’s your favourite recipe?
It’s hard to choose, but for winter definitely my Triple Oreo Cheesecake recipe, it’s super easy and tastes incredible! For summer my summer lemon bars recipe, it’s really refreshing and a lovely treat for a hot summer’s day.
Who is your foodie hero?
Alain Ducasse. Ever since I had the pleasure of dining in Rivea London last year I’ve been in love, it’s such a fantastic restaurant and the food makes you feel as though you’re somewhere far more exotic than Knightsbridge. It would be a total dream to one day eat in Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester, and to try the original Rivea in St Tropez. I’m saving them both for a special occasion!
Which blogs do you like reading / which other blogs do you admire?
There are so many that I love! Foodie wise I love A Little Lusciousness, Rosie is a chef so knows a thing or two about food, and I just love her reviews, she tends to review restaurants that not everyone else reviews, and it’s really refreshing to learn about restaurants that maybe I haven’t heard of before. For travel I love What Katie Does, her photography is always absolutely stunning!
How do you like PRs to contact you (phone, email, face-to-face meetings)?
Emails all the way! I have a full time job as well as my blog, so don’t have time for phone calls or face-to-face meetings. Emails mean I can reply in my own time when I have a free ten minutes.
