Chapel Down’s Harvest
We invited leading wine and drinks writers Damian Barr and Guy Woodward to experience this year’s particularly lucky harvest. The Chapel Down winery at Tenterden welcomes over 50,000 visitors a year, with this figure increasing inline with the popularity of English wine.
On the tour we tasted fresh Bacchus and Pinot noir grape, far sweeter than you can find in any supermarket. We even Orange Bacchus straight from the tank.
The trip rounded off with a tasting of the entire Chapel Down range (over 15 wines) including the acclaimed Nectar sweet wine and Lamberhurst Fine & Rare English Grape Brandy.
A visit to Chapel Down wouldn’t be complete without a sit down meal at the onsite restaurant The Swan, serving an excellent menu of seasonal produce and extensive wines.
The Chapel Down Winery & Vineyards at Tenterden are open all year round (exc. Christmas Day) and anyone can walk through vineyard’s for free, but for a heightened experience £10 will get you a guided tour of the vineyards, winery and a tutored tasting of 7-8 of Chapel Down’s range of whites, reds, roses and sparklings.
