Clerkenwell Design Week celebrates great design

Every year Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW) celebrates great design with a series of installations, events and street spectacles around the trendy area of Clerkenwell. With plenty to see, do and explore, from talks and workshops to product launches, we couldn’t wait to pop over for a visit!

The area of Clerkenwell was still alive and buzzing at 5 o’clock on Wednesday afternoon attracting some of the leading pioneers in the creative industry coming to see all the new and innovative design projects commissioned specially for the CDW festival. Each company strived to challenge visitors’ perception of design application, as well as to inspire and entertain them. Each project aimed to push the boundaries of design, in terms of concepts, process and material capabilities. We found ourselves inspired by beautiful designs from photography, fabrics and wallpapers to outdoor ping pong tables and designs for a barge!

CDW barge rooftop

We were most inspired by the barge http://www.texasgoldengirl.com/accutane/ design by Bert & May, a compact looking barge that felt spacious on the inside with beautiful modern yet homely interiors with all the mod cons. The interiors boasted plenty of natural materials and colours including wooden floors and walls, a marble kitchen top and chic grey fabrics throughout. The bathroom felt generous and comfortable with a spacious shower decorated with geometric tiles which had a subtle nod to Esher’s designs.

CDW13Another highlight was the beautifully designed fabrics and wallpapers by Mitas & Co. We were taken by their flamingo and partridge wallpapers, as well as their beautiful goldfish illustrations for both fabric and wallpaper.

Other participants included Cousins + Cousins architects, Gruppe, Monotype, Russ + Henshaw, Johnson Tiles, Grimshaw Architects, Sebastian Cox, Laura Ellen Bacon, Michael Young, David Adjaye, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, Jake Dyson, Todd Bracher, Patricia Urquiola and Clerkenwell Design Week
