Ikea’s Joy of Storage

Ikea Joy of Storage 1

On 21st January, the Wild Card Home & Lifestyle Team travelled to Dalston to see world renowned furniture brand Ikea enter the art world with it’s first ever pop-up immersive gallery exhibition – ‘The Collection’.

Having come face to face with a taxidermy display of stuffed birds, hares and even a kitten on entering the gallery, we were acclimatized to the fact that this exhibition would contain ten of the most weird and wonderful collections. The quirky fashion quota was fulfilled by fashion icon Dawn O’Porter’s vintage collection draped and hung in an Ikea mirrored wardrobe and Liz West’s Spice Girls memorabilia presented on Ikea floating shelves. From Scary Spice’s giant platform boots, the subjects of the collections reduced in size to miniatures with thousands of Pez characters and toy soldier figurines buy fluconazole tablet 150 mg lined up in glass cabinets, and Ikea box wall cabinets housing period dolls house furniture, pets and people. Stormtrooper enthusiast Darryl Jones even used Ikea hooks and hangers to display photoshopped images of his Stormtrooper collection drinking wine in an arm chair, doing wheelbarrow races and bungee jumping.

In presenting this eccentric range of treasures, Ikea proved itself as much more than a provider of ubiquitous storage solutions, sharing inspiring ideas to make the most of showing off prized possessions in the home. That’s if anyone else managed to find this eccentric exhibition tucked away next to a canal, away from passing trade. While perhaps this PR move didn’t bring home the coverage, hopefully Ikea’s ‘Joy of Storage’ TV advert that preceded the event will help spread the word!
