Purple is the new green!
When you work in Food PR and you’re as much of a fan of Instagram-worthy food as we are, discovering everything there is to know about the trend of 2017 is as must. As you’ll no doubt have heard, purple food is set to be the food industry’s next big trend. With this in mind, we opened up our little black book and spoke to nutritionist Dr Sarah Schenker to find out why it is so important to our diets…
We are often told to “eat our greens”, and are encouraged to include as many colours as possible on our plates in the form of different fruit and vegetables, but now purple foods are set to overtake the likes of avocados and kale and become the superfoods of 2017.
Purple fruits and vegetables are packed with antioxidants and potent nutrients such as anthocyanins, and the bright tone of these foods is actually an indication of nutrient density and high-levels of antioxidants, which help us fight disease, inflammation and signs of aging. Did you know that purple cabbage has twice the amount of polyphenols as green cabbage? So making small no prescription fluconazole changes to incorporate purple foods into our diet is a no brainer when it comes to making healthier choices.
Exploring the science behind this, nutritionist Dr Sarah Schenker comments: “Anthocyanins are the most prominent among the flavonoids – the universal plant colorants are responsible for the red, purple and blue hues evident in many fruits, vegetables and cereal grains. These are proven to have health-promoting qualities, and their consumption is thought to play a role in preventing lifestyle-related diseases such as cancer and diabetes, as well as cardiovascular and neurological diseases. Other benefits include boosting cognitive function, keeping your liver healthy and reducing high cholesterol. A change in our diets to increase intake of these foods is certainly a positive one, and I look forward to seeing the inventive ways in which they continue to be used.”
It seems the purple trend could be the perfect way to maintain a healthy and happy lifestyle, and we’re excited to see the weird and wonderful recipe ideas that will no doubt be popping up all over our social media feeds in the months to come.
