Our Quick Draw sees us spend 60 seconds with a Wild West friend, be it one of our clients, a journalist, blogger or a content curator, and find out what motivates them and what they love about their job.

Jess Siggers is a Bristol-based social media influencer, Instagram consultant and photographer. In 2015 Jess became one of Instagram’s ‘Suggested Users’ (@PorthJess) and has over 38K followers –  in addition to running the Bristol Instagrammers network (IGersBristol).

We’re big fans of Jess’s work and look forward to working more closely with her and our travel clients in 2017.

Questions with Porth Jess:

What gets you up in the morning?

My lovely husband brings me a cup of tea in bed every morning as he knows I struggle to wake up without my jolt of caffeine! Swiftly followed by our daughter who comes in and yanks opens the curtains.

What do you love best about your job?

The variation. So far today I’ve completed forms to submit to the council for some photography walks I’m hoping to host later in the year, liaised with clients over details of forthcoming Instagram Workshops I’m providing them with, and wrapped up my latest campaign with a long-term client. Later I’m off to a private exhibition viewing, arranged for Igers Bristol (the Bristol Instagram network I run). Tomorrow looks entirely different again!

What do you like least?

Chasing clients for payment. Grrrr! The bane of the freelancer.

What keeps you motivated?

I’m often contacted by people on Instagram who tell me they’ve booked a trip to Bristol or somewhere else in the UK based on my photos and passion for those places. That keeps me going and makes it all worth it!

What are the challenges ahead for your sector?

Influencer marketing really came into its stride in 2016 and you have to wonder how Brexit and the changing British economy will affect the funding for future UK and European-based campaigns between brand and influencer. I’m making sure I keep working on my photography in the background during 2017, as whatever happens in future with social media, people will always need photographers!

What advice would you give your 21 year old self?

Don’t beat yourself up over not going to university…it’s not the be all and end all!

Where do you want to be in 10 years’ time?

I’d like to be doing exactly what I’m doing now but in turbo-mode, having shared my love of Bristol and the Southwest in other colourful areas all over the world. Hopefully we’ll finally have the campervan we’ve always wanted as well…

What do you love most about Bristol?

Its colour, creativity and feisty independent spirit. Plus you’re never far from a lovely green space.

What is Bristol’s best kept secret?

I think we’re probably now the pizza capital of the UK. Nobody’s called it yet so I will.
