It’s that time of year again when the Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood in all of us, comes out and competes for the ultimate title…the Wild Card Bake Off Star Baker.

In order to raise money for MacMillan, the Wild Card London and Wild West teams put their baking skills to the test with some very special judges.

The day started off with the Wild West team who baked up some real delights including Ellie’s Brownies, Maddi’s Raspberry Triple Lemonade Cake, Pip’s Dulce de Leche Cheesecake, Sasha’s Rocky Roads and Georgie’s Fairy Cakes…and of course to include the Cornish element with Anna and her Cornish Heavy Cake.  Wild West were fortunate to have two judges from the fantastic Gravy Boesti; head chef Scott Williams and patisserie chef Ian Trevaskis so pressure was on to impress.

Things were getting rather heated in the London office with certain members (might have been me) of the team feeling threatened and eyeing up other creations (again…me).  The London team had their very own VIP judge, Kate Wild, with the support of Venetia Clarke.  The team gathered in the board room (complete with Sarah on FaceTime) nervous yet full of anticipation. The array of baked goodies was very impressive, Mary and Paul would have been proud.

We had Holly’s Chocolate Explosion (should have won), Hayley’s Peanut Butter Brownies, Flo’s Orange and Lemon Polenta Cake with a Cardamon Syrup and Spiralled Candid Oranges (no body likes a show off!), Sophie’s White Chocolate and Raspberry Cake, Rhiannon’s Nutella Brownies, Ellie’s Brownies, Harriet’s Banana and Raspberry Focaccia, Ryan’s Lemon and Blueberry Sponge, Hannah’s Healthy Brownies and Sarah’s Surprise Piñata Cake.  Not forgetting Richard’s attempts…what Richard lacked in appearance he made up in taste and skill as millionaire shortbreads are certainly not the easiest of bakes.

So without further ado, the winners of the 2015 Wild Card Bake Off……Ellie and her brilliant Brownies and Flo with her Orange and Lemon Polenta Cake with a Cardamon Syrup and Spiralled Candid Oranges.

I’d best get back to the kitchen to perfect my smartie and chocolate making skills….until next year!
