The event brought together interested clients and marketing professionals to hear from one of the UK’s leading media experts. The group discussed several subjects and heard from Dr Chris on a number of hot topics.
Dr Chris has been on the show since it started 25 years ago. The show runs five days a week and is overseen by a specific team and has specific content. Dr Chris is part of the Tuesday team which is ‘health’ day. The health slot has a topic each week and it gets the most interest of all the key slots.
To get a brand or product on the show it needs to be newsworthy and have an interesting angle as part of a broader health story.
Dr Chris talked about how heart disease, strokes and diabetes are the 3 biggest killers which people need to be most concerned about. He uses the analogy of ‘foot and mouth disease’ – we are putting too much sugar, salt, fat and tobacco into our mouths but not doing enough exercise with our feet.
Dr Chris talked about ‘diabesity’ and how the NHS spends £10 billion a year on diabetes and 80% of those who are diabetic are overweight. Higher intake of sugar leads to a high risk of diabetes. He thinks that sugar is the new tobacco which may result in a sugar tax.
On average adults are watching TV for 5 hours a day and often snacking on unhealthy foods. Children are being driven to school, playing inside on their games consoles and schools are not enforcing enough exercise. This has lead to an alarming amount of children getting type II diabetes. Dr Chris recommends that his patients take the LIMBO test ‘look in the mirror and be honest’. His top tip to anyone is to simply walk more.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
